Due to the specific hazards in wind parks, all employees with a German employment contract or those working in German wind parks on a secondment basis must hold a first aid qualification in accordance with § 26 DGUV Regulation 1 or possess a comparable professional qualification.

Workplace First Responders in Wind Parks

Workplace first responders are trained laypersons who are the first to arrive at an accident scene and take appropriate measures to prevent acute health and life-threatening conditions. The basic first aid training for workplace first responders consists of at least nine instructional units in a certified first aid course.

Additionally, a portion of first responders in wind parks should undergo advanced first aid training, particularly in the GWO Enhanced First Aid module and/or DGUV “First Responder Wind Energy”. This further training enables them to provide extended first aid measures while awaiting emergency medical services, which can take longer than usual to arrive in remote wind park locations.

Advanced First Aid Competence for Wind Energy First Responders

The “First Responder Wind Energy” advanced qualification builds upon standard first aid training and includes:

  • Additional first aid training (18 instructional units)
  • Extended equipment for specialized first aid measures
  • Use of teleconsultation to assist in emergency situations

To ensure effective emergency response, advanced first aid skills must be refreshed every two years through practical refresher training. These sessions include realistic emergency scenarios, enabling first responders to act quickly and efficiently, even in rare emergency situations.
