Working in Confined Spaces

The Working in Confined Spaces course is designed for individuals who need to enter, work in, or supervise activities in enclosed or partially enclosed areas. This training focuses on identifying the unique risks associated with restricted entry/exit points and potentially hazardous atmospheres, ensuring that all operations are conducted under strict safety controls.

What You Will Learn

• Defining Confined Spaces: Identifying what constitutes a confined space (e.g., tanks, silos, sewers, turbine hubs, and crawl spaces).

• Atmospheric Testing: Learning how to use gas detectors to monitor oxygen levels and detect flammable or toxic gases before and during entry.

• Entry Permits (PTW): Understanding the legal requirement for a “Permit to Work” and the safety checklists that must be completed.

• Ventilation & Isolation: Techniques for purging contaminated air and ensuring all mechanical or electrical energy sources are locked out.

• Emergency & Rescue Plans: Establishing communication protocols and understanding the role of the “Standby Person” (Topman) for emergency extractions.

• PPE & Specialized Gear: Correct use of tripods, winches, escape breathing apparatus (EBA), and full-body harnesses.
